Fees & Insurance for Midwifery Care

Dear families,

As an independent midwife, sustainability is an ongoing challenge due to the constraints of the global fee reimbursement model imposed by insurance companies.

The traditional insurance-based payment model offers a lower than minimum wage fixed salary to midwives, regardless of the time and dedication invested in each client’s care. This leads to financial strain and contributes to the emergence of maternity deserts lacking adequate maternity care due to provider burnout.

To address these challenges, I have introduced à la carte midwifery service fees, ensuring that the extra time and personalized attention integral to the midwifery model are adequately compensated.

To further support clients, I offer flexible payment options. Insurance benefits can be applied toward the cost of care. An invoice will be provided for your total cost of care after my biller reviews your insurance coverage. Once that is completed I will provide an estimate of total costs. Payment plans are available to ease financial burdens, with the final balance due by 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Overpayments will be refunded once accounts are settled. Additionally, services such as labs, diagnostic ultrasounds, and other provider fees are billed through your insurance, ensuring transparency and affordability.

By implementing these measures, I strive to maintain a sustainable practice that continues to provide exceptional care to my clients. Below, please find an overview of my payment options.

Booking Fee

I prioritize your journey through pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond. A $600 booking fee charged at the start of care will secure not just a service, but an unparalleled level of care and attention that’s tailored to your unique needs.

Your booking fee is required upon initiation of care and is not covered by insurance.

I strongly believe in equal access to quality care for all. If you find it challenging to pay the fee during your initial visit, please reach out to Susan. I’m dedicated to discussing suitable payment options with you.

NOTE: Kate's midwifery care services are not subject to the midwifery service fee.

Cost-Sharing Organizations

I encourage you to consider joining a cost-sharing organization for your pregnancy.

Our clients experience the best billing outcomes with cost-sharing organizations like Christian Healthcare Ministries, Good Samaritan and Medi-Share. They pay for the cost of midwifery services, usually in full or close to it through a reimbursement process.

If you are already enrolled in a share plan, you should contact your CSO to ensure I am in their system, or take the steps to add me. This may be a simple form for the client to give to me to fill out and have sent back to the CSO.

With CSO's you pay me upfront and the CSO reimburses you (the client), usually after the baby is born and all costs have been incurred.

Self-Pay

We understand that not everyone has insurance coverage for their maternity care.

For those without insurance benefits, we offer a comprehensive self-pay package with a la carte options to custom-build your & your newborn's care.

This inclusive package encompasses all services outlined under midwifery care and does not alter the level of individualized care you will receive.
